Quick and Easy Visualizing Lesson

Hi friends! This week I introduced visualizing to my little ones with a super easy and powerful lesson! I wanted to share it with you in case you could use it too! :)

We used the awesome poem My Neighbor's Dog is Purple by Jack Prelutsky.

I think Deanna Jump was the first to blog about this poem! It is perfect for visualizing, and the kiddos really love it! They always freak out at the end when they realize what it is!

I used manilla paper to save on copies, but I included a freebie recording sheet for you! If you use manilla paper, I would recommend folding it in thirds for them. Then they should label their paper before, during, and after.

Then, project the poem title on the screen. I made this about 2 seconds before so it is not fancy, haha! But there is a version for you at the end!

As you share the poem, they should draw their mental image. I gave about 4-5 minutes for think time and to give them time to color.

Here are a few freebies to you!

And the poem! I made it so you can project it on your smartboard revealing more each time. It's important not to show the full poem until the end! :)

  1. Hi there! I think there is a typo. Shouldn't it say: "its eyes ARE large and green?" I love this though!
